Happy Friday y’all!!! Today I’m sharing something new with you!! Actually, let me be more accurate… this is new to the blog, I’ve hosted a mini “Fix It Up Friday” on my Love The Tompkins Facebook page a few times and it was such a hit so I’ve decided to bring it along for the long haul here over on the blog! So here is how it works, I find items listed on my local craigslist/buy sell trade websites that can be transformed to create a great cohesive look with a little TLC.
Here is my inspiration photo for this weeks “fix up”…
Okay friends, don’t hate me but I cannot find the source fort his look 🙁 I’ve scoured the internet and no one seems to know and I can’t find the source image just millions of repins! Regardless it’s great right? I’m pretty sure this is a vignette at a vintage shop ( notice the price tags?) but I think this would be such a cute look for a reading nook, especially in a kids room/ playroom area. I looked on my local Craigslist a found a great set of lockers, and the best part? …….$40. Yes. $40.
Next I want to share with you what my plan for these lockers would be and how to emulate the look of our inspiration photo.
I’ve gone ahead and linked up all the items in the mood board above for you, the only item no longer available is the map, BUT I linked a very similar map from the same retailer 😉
I would start by making over the lockers with paint, I chose Fairytale Pink by Krylon and I picked a nice creamy white (Bistro White by Valspar) for the walls. A vintage looking hanging map from Urban Outfitters, however this would be a super easy DIY if you didn’t want to shell out cash for a hanging map. You can download cheap or even free map clipart that can be blown up to poster size at your local office store. Then gluing 1” wood trim at the top and bottom and attaching a string for hanging purposes.
I picked a series of 3 abstract prints from a lovely etsy seller. A cute little butterfly chair that has been elevated with a leather seat would make this the perfect spot for kids to perch with their favorite books. I think anchoring the area with a cute round jute rug would make this space feel more purposeful and it would really create a “zone” with this area especially if this is a reading nook made in a spare corner of the house.
I don’t really have room for these lockers in my house, I wish I did! They would be so awesome in a playroom, an entry way/mudroom or laundry room! In my dream house I will have lockers for my kids to put all of their “things.” However for $40 I may just have to buy them anyway 😉 Have you found anything lately on a yardsale site that could be the anchor piece for a great room just waiting to happen? I’d love to hear about it!
