Last week I shared that I am participating in this year’s October One Room Challenge. I shared my plans for making over the dining room in our rental home in this post. In that post you can take a look at the layout of my space and see my inspiration board for the makeover. I want to create a colorful and inviting space but I do have some constraints since we do live in military base housing (this means, no paint, no changing light fixtures etc). This is also temporary housing for us ( we will be moving in March). I want to liven up our space and make it feel like home but I don’t want to break the bank on a home we will only be living in for a few months.
This week I want to share the wall treatment I’ve chosen and our buffet area.
The dining area is actually really great. We have really tall ceilings but that can be masked by all walls, ceilings and trim being the same shade of off white. I pulled off a temporary wall treatment with thin black washi tape to create a faux moulding look. This really accentuates how tall our ceilings are. (I’ve done this on every wall in our dining room, although I am only revealing this one today). I made a really fun Kate Spade inspired canvas to hang over our buffet area- because we’re all about healthy eating around here 😉
I would define my style as neo trad. A little old, a little new and lots of layered pieces. I would also say I’m a big fan of bar carts/trays. We don’t really drink much but I’ve kept interesting and colorful bottles to display along side a bowl of limes, our salt and pepper shakers and fun paper straws.
Our mod buffet is so perfect for the space. It was green before but I gave it fun little two toned paint & stain job.
