Hey everybody! I wanted to give you guys a little sneak peek at our playroom. This room is really a conglomeration of sorts, we refer to it as Grayson and Mommy’s playroom. When Alex was deployed Grayson and I were both sleeping downstairs, when he came home Grayson got a big boy room upstairs (pictures coming soon) and we moved into the upstairs guest room awaiting the end of our master bed/bath remodel. This left Grayson’s big ‘ol nursery downstairs free to be used at our dispense.
We decided that our biggest need was a combination office, playroom and guest room and we needed to make all that work in Grayson’s baby nursery. That is kind of a tall order! Space planning is essential for this room and I decided to tackle ONE part of that tall order this week………The Mommy Office!
If you’ve been over to our christmas tour you may have already seen some pictures of what G’s nursery used to look like, in case you haven’t here’s a good reference of the nook that I created my “Mommy Office” in.
G’s nursery was mod woodland themed and when he got his big boy room I went in a totally different direction so I decided to recycle his nursery theme in the playroom.
I’m loving that this little nook is the perfect size for a desk, a chair and a shelving unit (behind the chair, not pictured…for obvious reasons) and that the desk sits between two windows so I get TONS of great natural light. I wanted to kind of give a run down of the items that I used and where I got them, the curtains and the desk are from IKEA and unfortunately are no longer available!
The curtains are Malin TRAD and I’m praying I can find a pair on Amazon or Ebay because I need two more for a special project I have going on in the room. The desk is MELLA, I actually picked mine up at our local DAV thrift store for 10 big ones. it was a little beat up on top so I just sanded it a little bit then spray painted the top white and added a spray-on clear coat. Good.As.New.
I really needed a shelf above the desk for my silhouette so it could have access to an outlet and have plenty of room to work. I had scored the brackets on clearance at Target last summer for $.98 so they just hung out in my basement until I needed them. I had a piece of MDF board left over from a project that I primed, painted and now it’s a happy little shelf. Target no longer has the just the brackets available but you can buy them complete with their own happy little shelf. The desk lamp just happened to be in our basement when we moved in, it’s old and kind of funky so that’s really nice.
I scooped these little pots at a Marshall’s for $1 each. They are perfect. Also, I had no idea I had 37,897 pairs of scissors until today.
And my sweet little faux succulent, because I’m totally and hopelessly incapable of keeping any kind of living foliage alive.
I’ve killed a cactus……make that cacti.
The chair is super sturdy and deceptively comfortable. Alex’s parents let us take it when we got married and it hadn’t quite found his place in our new home, but I think with some baby blue spray paint he’s come into his own. The rug was a nice goodwill find, especially since it was in awesome condition and it fits this space just perfectly. I made the pillow about 5 seconds before I took the pictures, that’s how I do.
I can’t wait to reveal more of this room as the process continues, thanks for taking a look!
