Last Thursday we brought home our sweet baby Shep and have been settling into our home routine with a new little one quite nicely! Shep is our third baby so this definitely isn’t our first rodeo doing life with a newborn and I’ve developed some preferences when it comes to the gear we purchase to help us care for our babes. We’ve purchased some duds in the past and remembering that has prompted me to share what I consider my “must have” list for bringing home a new baby.
1. JuJuBe Diaper Bag
I’ve had quite a few diaper bags over the past 5 years but I can honestly report that my JuJuBe diaper bag is my absolute favorite for two reasons, the shoulder strap/backpack option and the diaper bag opening. I definitely love the ability to choose between carrying a backpack when I have all of the kiddos with me or crossbody style for easy access to all the contents. The zipper access to the main body of the diaper bag goes around three sides of the diaper bag and the front panel folds down giving you quick access to all of it’s interior pockets. Just today Alex commented on how awesome he thinks the bag is which is like big time – he doesn’t notice things like that.
2. Spectra S2 Breast Pump
I made it through breast feeding and pumping for two babies with a crappy pump before I decided that there had to be something better out there. Meet the Spectra S2 Breast Pump ! This is seriously 1000 times better than my old pump. It is super quiet, like almost silent – which was the complete opposite, loud and obnoxious! This gives the Spectra extra points with me because I can pump during the night or naptime and not wake anyone – Alex included. The pump gives you the option to pump on one side or two and the closed system means that the components of the pump are super easy to clean! The pump has adjustable suction and a massage feature to encourage let down.
3. Little Unicorn Muslin Swaddle Blankets
Y’all, I love these Muslin Swaddle Blankets. I seriously cannot get enough of them! They are an all around necessity where new babies are concerned, they make the perfect swaddle, nursing cover, burp cloth, security blanket etc. You can never go wrong stocking up on swaddles and if you are looking for a baby gift for a new mom these Little Unicorn swaddles are sure to be a hit! They have so many swaddle sets and singles in the most adorable prints and patterns.
4. Babyletto Origami Mini Crib
Our Mini Crib is by far one of the best baby pieces we own. This crib is the perfect crib to bring your baby home to. We use it at our bedside for our newborns. I love that it is on wheels and easy to move about our room. It also folds up to about 6″ thick which makes storing it a breeze! When there is no tiny baby occupying the crib we fold it down and keep it in the back of our closet for easy access, we’ve pulled it out a couple of times (before Shep’s arrival) when Sloane was running a fever over night and it was more convenient to have her sleep in our room for temperature checks and medicine administration during the night. These would make the perfect crib for a small nursery or a twin nursery where conserving space is essential!
5. Chicco Keyfit 30
This is our second go around with a Chicco Keyfit carseat and I have to say we love them! They are super easy to install in any vehicle – easy install I think is the key to insure your child is safely harnessed in every time! They are easy to take in and out of the carseat base, the base is also very very simple to install and has a level built in for convenience. The straps are easily adjusted and the 30 now accommodates babies up to 30lbs ( with heigh restrictions) When it comes to infant seats I will choose Chicco every time.
6. Milk Snob Nursing Cover & Carseat Cover
I was beyond excited to try a few new gadgets and accessories with baby Shep and the Milk Snob Nursing/Carseat Cover was one of them! I love that it is one product that serves multiple purposes ( it can also cover high chairs and shopping cart seats too! Just don’t forget to wash frequently if you do). I also love that it folds up super small and comes in a cute print. This is another product that would make a perfect gift that any mom would be happy to receive! I’ve already used mine like 100 times in less than a week!
7. My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow
During my time of breast feeding with Grayson I tried out a few different nursing pillows loaned to me by friends before I purchased my own. I ended up settling on the My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow as my favorite. It is super sturdy, has raised areas on the top surface where to baby lays to help with baby positioning, has a velcro adjustable clip closure to keep the pillow positioned around you comfortably and a side pocket for a water bottle/ phone etc. This pillow is the perfect breast feeding aid and totally preserves your posture during all those hours of breast feeding time so you don’t totally kill you back!
8. Mountain Buggy Jogging Stroller
We are in LOVE with our Mountain Buggy Jogging Strollers. He have a single jogger (The older version of the one pictured) and a duet (the double). I love them both! They are easily adjustable, easy to clean and easy to maneuver. They are a bit on the investment side price wise but it’s an investment we’d happily make again.
9. Mountain Buggy Carry Cot attachment
Another stroller accessory we have for our Mountain Buggy is the Carry Cot which fits both our single and double stroller. This is perfect attachment if you have an infant and until your baby is big enough to sit in a jogging stroller seat unassisted. The carry cot has a few different configurations that will hold your baby from infancy until they are ready for the regular seat.
I cannot tell you how much I love every single one of these items! They are lifesavers when it comes to caring for my little one’s and I hope that I could give you a good idea of baby gear you will need if you are expecting or things you could gift to a new mama in your life!
