For some time now I’ve been wanting some abstract art for a FEW places in our home, and after adding these Caitlin Wilson pillows to my breakfast nook, I was convinced this area needed an art piece to splash some color on the walls. The issue is that I’m really cheap, so I decided to make something of my own. I buzzed around pinterest for a while looking at all the beautiful abstract art, even some diy art done by other bloggers and I was so jealous of their beautiful creations. I’ve tried on a few different occasions to whip up my own abstract piece and I just trash them- it’s bad people. I decided to give it one more go. I found a piece on pinterest that was really beautiful AND it was totally the colors of my breakfast nook so I felt pretty inspired by the vibe it was giving off so I went for it.
Amazingly I actually like how it turned out-which is huge for me. I bought the white frame half off at Hobby Lobby and I had them cut a grey mat to size. The mat cutting was only $16.00 and my phone is broken right now so I didn’t even have my emailed 40% off coupon so that was a little bit of a bummer. $16.00 isn’t too terrible I suppose considering that the pre-cut much smaller mats were almost as much. Let me just say, if you do a little art of your own and you’re kind of intimidated about hanging it up great matting and framing makes all the difference!
I think the thick white frame and grey mat help the art to not get lost in the wallpaper. My biggest hesitation about adding an art piece in the breakfast nook was the “busy-ness”, but I think it all turned out well balanced.
Have you guys ever done some diy art? How do you feel about your own art work? I’d love to hear from you!
