Now that I’ve moved locations from my “.blogspot” to and actual “.com” I have the daunting task before me to transfer my projects and posts. I wish there was some magic button that would just automatically transfer everything for me, but that would be too easy right?! I’ve decided that I’d start by uploading some of my most viewed posts, and this one also happens to be one of my favorites!
Our stairwell/upstairs landing was seriously lacking in the lighting and beauty departments. When we moved in this light was responsible for lighting the whole area. Stunning isn’t she? And she’s about as bright as she is beautiful- clearly she will never find love…
My style leans more toward a nautical-preppy-eclectic-ness, and the nautical is definitely present in the stairwell and I wanted that to carry over into our lighting situation.
At the time, I had just received the Fall Pottery Barn catalog and FELL IN LOVE with the Colton sconces.
However people, my taste and my budget simply do not play well together.
At $149-$289, even I couldn’t rationalize that purchase.
So like all good recession-istas do, I got down to buisness and found a much less expensive light that had the same nautical appeal.
I found this little gem on Amazon for, wait for it……$19.99!
Yeah, you really just can’t beat that price. (I do want to mention that the fixture has a glass tube that sits in the metal cage, and I neglected to get a picture of that.)
I took the light fixture apart and painted it oil rubbed bronze with my favorite ORB spray paint- Krylon, Color Master-brushed metallics. This version of the ORB spray paint has a really pretty finish and it looks identical to a pre-fab ORB light fixture, unlike some of the ORB spray paints that look purple or glittery.
I put her together, installed her and look how pretty she is!
I think it really adds some nautical flair.
