Stairwell Makeover, Part II.

SWII6

Good evening everyone! I hope today finds you well! It finds me another year older…

That’s right it’s my birthday! And to celebrate on the blog tonight I’m going to celebrate with you the completion of the back landing in our stairwell.

You may have caught a glimpse of what this space looked like before, on our “Before Tour“. But just in case you did not, here’s a reminder!

Umm, YIKES!

In my post about our stairwell makeover I described how our plaster walls were just really unsightly.

They were so patchy and uneven! My remedy for this was some light sanding, grasscloth wallpaper and glossy white board and batten. It turned out great throughout the stairwell.

I still however needed to do a few thing to make this area presentable like….

Remove the mismatched vinyl flooring. which revealed beautiful(underneath all that glue) hardwood.  I peeled and scraped the vinyl off, melted the glue with warm soap and water and removed any varnish with Citristrip. I then stained and sealed the landing to match my beautiful dark stained stairs.

It was then time to turn my attention to the light fixture. You can see in the first “before” picture that it was a generic flush-mount light. I was once again going for some nautical lighting. I found this beautiful chandelier on Amazon.

It looks so fabulous in the space and is so bright too!

I also removed the door that separated the stairwell from our kitchen. That has also allowed the light to flow so much better and brighten up the space a bit.

Just some other little things I added…

I made a black and white stripped roman shade to go in our east facing window, I hung some pictures of our dogs in simple black frames I snagged at the Dollar Tree and I hung up our doggie tail hooks for leashes. Those were an Ikea find but if you aren’t around an Ikea you can buy some here.

I hope you guys enjoyed this little “part II” of our stairwell makeover. Hopefully the stairs leading to the basement will be finished soon, can’t wait to share those with y’all!
